Attic Rock: Arcy Drive Goes From Playing Their Attic to Selling Out Shows on “The Stattic Tour”
Hailing from Northport, NY Arcy Drive is made up of four friends: Nick Mateyunas (vocals, rhythm guitar), Pat Helrigel (bass), Brooke Tuozzo (drums), and Austin Jones (guitar).
The Long Island band developed a following in 2021 of eager fans by posting TikTok videos of covers and original songs. With their name coming from the street that hosts the attic they play in, the band refers to their sound as “attic rock”. The style fits them perfectly.
In late 2021, the band received news that SUNY Maritime student Nick would be working on a tugboat off the Gulf of Mexico. The band notes that "We had 2 weeks to create a few songs before we would ultimately have to re-evaluate our aspirations as a band." Thus, their 8-track series “Attic Sessions” was born. Filmed live in their attic, the sessions give an authentic and raw experience.
2022 saw these songs arrive on Spotify with the "Attic Sessions" album. Everything in Arcy Drive's discography is live except for their recorded version of the ever-so-catchy “Roll My Stone,” which has an impressive almost 2 million stream count.
The attic band has talents beyond musicianship, bringing their DIY skills to convert a school bus into their tour bus. Featuring Arcy Drive written on the side and a roof deck and skylights, it's a sight to behold. "The Barefoot Tour" saw Arcy Drive head out on the road in the summer of 2022 with a fitting tour name for a band that plays barefoot. Keeping their fans updated on their adventures, the band publishes a summer tour series on YouTube.
2023 shows no signs of slowing down for the band as they have embarked on another tour. The band has grown from playing local bars to selling out venues with the opening night of “The Stattic Tour” being a sold-out show at the Bowery Ballroom.
Arcy Drive looked comfortable on stage, standing beneath a banner of their band name. It took me a few songs to realize why they seemed so casual. The group was all missing socks and shoes. A bold move to stand barefoot on venue floors, but I support it.
Although Arcy Drive was playing in a packed venue, the group's friendly chemistry onstage made it feel like watching a backyard concert. With their attic rock sound, Arcy Drive embodies warm nostalgia with their raw passion. Their shows are electric and exciting, and I can’t get enough.
