Live: TOURZILLA Takes NYC With Last Dinosaurs and Vacations

Hailing from down under in Australia, Vacations and Last Dinosaurs' co-headlining tour, Tourzilla, made their way to NYC this past week. The 30-date, co-headline US tour started off with a performance at the All Things Go Festival. TOURZILLA follows Vacations' two sold-out US headline tours and a sold-out tour in the UK this past May. It also follows Last Dinosaurs' 28-show US run with Bad Suns and Quarters of Change late last year.

NYC’s theme was “Movie Night,” and fans wholeheartedly embraced it. From pop culture costumes like Mario and Pokemon to obscure movie characters, almost everybody dressed up.

Eliza McLamb opened the evening with her catchy, heartfelt songs. Playing tracks like “Mythologize Me” and “Anything You Want,” the singer-songwriter captured the audience's attention. Definitely an artist to watch!

Not long after, Last Dinosaurs took the first slot on stage. Dressed alike in matching gray suits, the Dinos turned up the energy with their fast, guitar hook-driven indie pop sound. The band opened with their latest single, “Afterlife.” Electrifying and lively, the crowd was singing along with the band. A fun, quirky band, they played hits including “Flying” and “Italo Disco.”

Doing something they’ve never done in America, the Brisbane group treated the crowd to a ‘90s/early 00’s cover medley that saw one enthusiastic fan crowd surfing. Ending with “Zoom,” Last Dinosaurs called their night “the best New York show we’ve ever played.”

Vacations closed off the night with their dreamy shoegaze pop vibe. Avid fans were delighted with every song they performed, including one of their new singles, “Midwest.”

Slow dancing isn't often requested at a concert, but Vacations called for it as the disco ball lit up for “Glow.” Couples across the dance floor paired up, twirling around to a backdrop of glittery light.

Treating the crowd to an unreleased track, “Close Quarters,” that’s slated to be the next single, fans were clearly excited to hear about new material on the horizon. However, Vacations knew what fans wanted, teasing, “Maybe some songs you can sing to, right? Maybe some songs you can dance to?” before launching into “Actors.”

TOURZILLA brought together two exceptional bands for a night of unforgettable music and memories, leaving fans eagerly anticipating what's next.
