Sammy Rae & The Friends Tease 2024 Album With New Single “Come Home Song”
Despite the cold winter weather, Sammy Rae & The Friends radiate the sound of sunshine on their latest track, “Coming Home Song.”
As much as Sammy Rae & The Friends may be a band, this collective of dreamers and artists considers themselves a family first. Fronted by singer and songwriter Sammy Rae, the group flourishes in any spotlight with a combination of all-for-one and one-for-all camaraderie, palpable chemistry, deft virtuosity, and vocal fireworks. Their sound is a mélange of influences, rooted in classic rock, folk, and funk and sprinkled with soul and jazz.
Complete with a rhythm section and two saxophones, The Friends had a stellar year of high-energy performances in 2023, including Summerstage NYC and Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, and embarked on their first-ever international tour. The widely successful “CAMP” themed tour continues in 2024 as Sammy Rae & The Friends gear up for another US run and tease their highly-anticipated debut album.
The mantra of the Friends? “Go put a smile on somebody’s face, go tell somebody they’ve got a place in this world, go tell somebody you wanna be friends with them.” The infectious energy of “Coming Home Song” perfectly embodies that ethos. Funky, jazzy, and a whole mix of genres, Sammy Rae & The Friends succeed in building a track that’s jubilant and uplifting. This song belongs on every feel-good playlist out there.
The accompanying music video chronicles Sammy's day, filled with mishaps from spoiled milk to missing the subway and even being robbed. Midway through, as the music swells and the saxophones come to life, we're transported to an alternate reality where everything aligns for Sammy as they dance around and play the piano. With the montage-style clips, I can't help but have a main character moment, where I envision myself as a protagonist in a rom-com.
The song carries a sense of romance with its themes of self-discovery and self-love. Reminding listeners to leave a light on for themselves, Sammy sings, “Leave the light on for yourself / doing alright aint a damn crime / feeling it all for the first time / and you're just getting into your prime.”
The “Coming Home Song” is a must-listen. Stay tuned for Sammy Rae & The Friends's new album coming later this year!
