Wallice Yearns on “Loser at Best”

Wallice's latest single, "Loser at Best," offers a compelling blend of 90's pop-punk nostalgia with a contemporary twist and pop flair. The track serves as a preview of her upcoming EP, Mr. Big Shot, out June 23rd via Dirty Hit. Following the EP's lead single, "Best Friend," Wallice showcases her unique musical style, characterized by rock-infused guitar melodies fused with a pop sensibility.

The song kicks off with an opening verse that paints a vivid picture of someone who struggles to make decisions and fluctuates constantly. Wallice's delivery alternates between spoken words and melodic phrases, accompanied by a simple drum beat and a repeating guitar riff. The lyrics compare the subject's inconsistent behavior to unpredictable weather patterns: "Said you're changin' for the better/But you're too much like this May weather/You're hot, then you're cold."

As the instrumentals cut away, Wallice's vocals take center stage in the chorus, filled with longing. "I want to see you again, but you see me as a friend," Wallice's need conveys a sense of obsession with the subject and the desire to be with them.

The chorus intensifies with a surge of pounding drums and guitars, adding energy and urgency to the track. Referring to herself as an overthinker, Wallice admits to feeling like a loser at best.

The song's title, "Loser at Best," encapsulates the underlying theme of yearning. Wallice explores the universal desire to be wanted and needed, emphasizing the complex emotions that come with unrequited love. She confesses the lengths to which she goes to compensate for the person's absence, using the line, "I can't have you, so I bought your cologne to make me feel better."

Overall, "Loser at Best" is a captivating musical offering that skillfully combines elements of 90s pop-punk with a contemporary sound. Accompanied by her guitar-driven melodies, Wallice's distinctive vocals create an immersive experience that resonates with listeners. The track serves as a promising glimpse into her upcoming EP, Mr. Big Shot, and reinforces her position as an artist to watch.
