Aqua Brings Down the House in Boston

For the first time in the band’s history, Europop sensation Aqua traveled to the United States, bringing together Barbie fans and music enthusiasts alike at the House of Blues Boston this past week. Despite being a Wednesday night, the crowd was packed and singing along non-stop to Aqua’s entire discography.

Peppered across the stage were several references to Barbie, from Søren Rasted’s Barbie “jukebox” piano to the backup singers’ Barbie-inspired outfits. Although the band encountered some technical issues throughout the night, particularly with Lene’s earpiece disconnecting, they pulled through as if nothing had happened, proving their tenacity and expertise as artists.

Aqua surprised the audience with revamped versions of “We Belong to the Sea” and “Bumble Bees,” and an on-stage kiss that set the crowd ablaze! The final medley of their greatest hits, “Barbie Girl,” “Doctor Jones,” and “Lollipop (Candyman),” brought a tear to my eye as memories of my childhood flooded my senses. The show was one of my favorites in months, and I look forward to following the rest of their tour.

Aqua’s World Tour continues through November 9th, 2024. For upcoming shows, visit https://www.aquaofficial.com/#tour.
