Comfort Club Shares Vulnerability on “If You’re Not Next To Me” and “Try”

Los Angeles-based Colin Tracey is an indie pop/rock artist creating music under his project Comfort Club. Originating as a DIY venture during his college years, Comfort Club has been releasing music since 2019. After a break in 2023, he's now back and better than ever.

This year, Comfort Club has already unveiled several tracks, showcasing the impact of his hiatus. His first release of 2024, "Two Kids In A Trench Coat," portrays a bittersweet story of young love and heartbreak as kids playing as adults. With its dreamy pop essence, the song's playful lyrics and nostalgic undertones perfectly encapsulate the essence of Comfort Club's music.

His latest release consists of a double single, “If You’re Not Next To Me” and "Try. Both are perfect examples of his signature mix of raw emotion and captivating lyricism. Known for blending dream pop elements with silky guitar riffs and effervescent melodies, reminiscent of his influences such as John Mayer, these new songs are no exception.

“If You’re Not Next To Me” delves into the theme of fear of abandonment, a recurring motif in Comfort Club's discography. Vulnerable on the chorus, Comfort Club sings, "Said you'd be there for me/can't be alone in this economy/and honestly I'm scared to see what happens next if you're not next to me." Catchy and mellow, Comfort Club hits all the right notes on this track.

"Try" features melodic guitar lines while continuing to explore themes of heartbreak. Reflecting on growing apart in a relationship, Comfort Club lyrically depicts the unraveling of love. The chorus is an absolute earworm, "Am I an optimist/cause I never thought to quit/I loved you to pieces but couldnt complete them/so maybe someone else should try."

With 2024 heralding the resurgence of Comfort Club, Tracey is on his Fear of Moving On tour while gearing up to release an album later this year. Get tickets here.
