Drop Nineteens Return to Boston to Play Paradise Rock Club

Drop Nineteens is one of those bands that has a quintessential sound, a sound that defines their genre in many ways. Unfortunately, the band didn’t last long, releasing a few albums before disbanding in late 1993. Despite their short three-year run, their fanbase grew, reaching new shoegaze fans as well as old, myself included.

After thirty decades of radio silence, Drop Nineteens returned to their hometown of Boston last month. Paradise Rock Club was a special space for them. Lead singer Greg Ackell recalled when he and bandmate Chris Roof would sneak into the venue during their college days at Boston University down the block, catching a glimpse at local legends. So for him and the rest of the band, to see their music inspire so many new faces was the unexpected joy of a lifetime.

Drop Ninteens ran through songs from their debut album Delaware and latest album Hard Light, while covering Lana Del Rey’s “White Dress” and Madonna’s “Angel.” To end things off, they played their biggest hit, “Kick The Tragedy,” live for the first time.
