Dylan Brings The Rebel Child Tour to NYC
Natasha Woods, a 23-year-old artist professionally known as Dylan, has been making music since 2019 with her debut EP, Purple. A few years later, 2022 saw the London singer get her big break as she opened for Ed Sheeran on his +–=÷× stadium tour. The same year also saw the release of her full-length album The Greatest Thing I'll Never Learn and the No Romeo EP.
Raised on a steady diet of rock 'n' roll, Dylan's musical style combines her early influences of AC/DC and Guns 'n' Roses with modern pop elements. Delving into love, heartbreak, and everything in between, Dylan captivates audiences with her lyrics and keeps them hooked with driving guitars and catchy melodies.
A natural rockstar, Dylan has broken out of the U.K. and made her way to America on her headline tour. Playing NYC's Bowery Ballroom this past week, Some People and Mercer Henderson opened the show. The crowd was charmed by Some People's good humor about not having their full band and stripping down their set to just the two of them with guitars. Building up the energy from them, Mercer Henderson got the crowd going with her upbeat energy and songs.
As the venue plunged into darkness and the familiar strains of "Rebel Child" filled the air, anticipation reached a fever pitch. Emerging on stage clad in a custom Yankees jersey emblazoned with her name, with a sparkling electric guitar slung around her neck, Dylan looked every part the rockstar.
Her electrifying set showed off her range as she played hits like the belting "Girl of Your Dreams," the melancholy "Every Heart But Mine" and the infectious "No Romeo." The singer's stage presence made it clear that she felt completely at home on stage. Effortlessly commanding the audience's attention by singing, dancing, and playing guitar, Dylan showed off why she's the total package.
Interacting warmly with her fans between songs, Dylan offered glimpses into her creative process, sharing anecdotes about the inspiration behind her latest single, "The Alibi." Charmingly regaling the audience by telling the story of how it came to be "with a glass of wine in one hand and my phone in the other," Dylan admitted that saying she'd lie for someone made for a weird conversation, but that it gave her the idea for the song.
In addition to playing her own songs, Dylan threw two covers into her set. Strumming an acoustic guitar to Taylor Swift's "Out of The Woods," the singer smoothly mixed it with one of her own deep cuts, "Sour Milk." Later covering Sam Smith's "Unholy," the sultry song with its dark and raspy vocals suited Dylan’s persona and stage presence.
One of the night's highlights was the debut of an unreleased track from her upcoming debut album, "Perfect Revenge," which left fans eagerly anticipating its release.
Ending the night quite fittingly was "Nothing Lasts Forever." The catchy, sing-along lyrics left fans on a high. As Dylan left the stage to cheers, the final song was also a reminder to fans to enjoy the moment because nothing truly lasts forever.
With an album coming later this year, Dylan is one to watch out for.
