Griff Releases New EP, “vert1go vol.1”

English singer-songwriter Griff got her start in 2019 with her debut single, "Mirror Talk." Named Rising Star at the 2021 Brit Awards, Griff became one of the youngest winners in the category at 20. Building on her success, Griff unveiled her debut mixtape later that same year, titled "One Foot in Front of the Other."

This week Griff is back with her new EP vert1go vol. 1. Introduced by the latest single, “Vertigo," which was hailed by Taylor Swift, "damn Griff I love this one," the EP features two brand-new songs, "Into The Walls'' and "19th Hour."

“Vertigo” sets the mood for the EP with its atmospheric touch. Griff’s voice soars over electronic beats and synth melodies, creating an irresistible cinematic atmosphere. An anthem for anybody navigating the twists and turns of their own journey, “Vertigo” is an absolute earworm of a song.

"Into The Walls" offers a different facet of Griff's artistry, showcasing her soft and introspective side. Titling a snippet on YouTube as “A song about being jealous of the walls because they’re strong & stable & can watch the world go by,” Griff’s description is accurate. Featuring plucky piano and a more stripped-back feel than "Vertigo," Griff’s voice takes center stage. “I think I'll disappear into the walls / Only for a day or two, at most.” The lyrics encapsulate emotions that oscillate between joy and sorrow, conveying a sense of vulnerability and introspection.

Nostalgic for the naivety of adolescence, the instrumental builds up by the chorus, developing into an infectious beat that underscores the same piano riff from the song’s start. “Yesterday I felt like dancin' / Tomorrow maybe I'll cry.”

The journey through "vert1go vol. 1" culminates with the ethereal "19th Hour" which transports the listener to an otherworldly realm. The song begins with haunting background vocals that give way to Griff's powerful voice during the anthemic chorus. “When "I love you" starts to lose its meanin' / You only say it just to cover up the bleedin'.”

Griff's emotive vocals in combination with mesmerizing instrumental elements, create a captivating and poignant EP.
