Live: Kinneret Brings All That I Know to Brooklyn

Kinneret Klein was born to play music. With a name that means “harp” in Hebrew, the songwriter has been pursuing her namesake and releasing music since 2018.

"I can go faster with no wind resistance." TikTok caught wind of Kinneret in 2022 with her song "Wind Resistance!" going viral and propelling her music to a larger audience. The psychedelic hook captured the ears and hearts of many and they’ve been riding Kinneret’s wavelength ever since. 2023 has gifted us her third album All That I Know.

A unique blend of electronic, indie, and trap, Kinneret calls her music “psychedelic indie space cowgirl." Shimmery synths, 808s, and trap beats are all staples in her production. With lyrics that focus on inclusivity and positivity riding on top of a kaleidoscopic experimental instrument, Kinneret's music takes you out of this world.

Kinneret has been bringing her music to the world on her All That I Know tour and I caught her performance at Baby’s All Right. The Brooklyn venue was transformed into a magical space with fairy lights adorning the DJ booth and mic stand. Taking you to another world, a projector lit up the stage with illustrations that played in the background along with the music.

A joy to watch Kinneret perform, you can see she genuinely enjoys what she does as she dances to her music on stage. The crowd genuinely enjoys her music too. It's impossible to be a casual listener of Kinneret's. You either vibe with and love her music, or you don't. This crowd was the perfect example of that. They weren't just casual listeners, but hardcore fans dancing and singing along to every word.

I was blown away by how much Kinneret connects with her fans. At one point, she called out and asked if Julie Davis was in the crowd. She said she saw Julie’s Instagram comment about a song and knew how much it meant to her. “I know you’re real”, Kinneret said, laughing about how crazy it is going from seeing all the usernames on social media to experiencing the crowd in real life. Going beyond one-on-one interactions, Kinneret even jumped off the stage during one of the songs to dance with the crowd and form a mini mosh pit.

As a fellow Jew, I relate to Kinneret's traces of Jewish connections in her music. One of my favorites on the new album that nods to Judaism is "Learn My Name." There's a dual meaning to the song. On one level, it cleverly references Kinneret's relationship to Judaism and fellow songwriter and harp player King David with its lyric "poetry King David used to make / he'd make it with my name / I write it just the same".

On a more practical level, the song's message is its title. Learn my name. With its Hebrew origin, many people mispronounce Kinneret (kee - NAIR - it). To remedy this, the singer split the crowd into sections to get her name correct. Panning left to right, everyone was screaming Kinneret's name (correctly) for this song.

Another song that had Kinneret working the crowd was "Wizardry!" A simple "lalala" kicks off the song and Kinneret made sure everyone was singing along and providing background vocals as she launched into the song. Everybody loves a good "lalala" lyric and with delectable synth lines and a memorable melody, the song is a total earworm.

All That I Know was played in its entirety and in track order. With its high energy, “Wind Resistance!” ended the night with a bang.
