CDs: A Few Cents Makes Sense
Here’s the best part (besides hearing the band). We lucky few got to hear their new mixtape before it dropped. All of us got signed CDs of their mixtape and CD players were passed around and that helped kill the remaining few hours. You’re thinking "who even uses CDs anymore? "
Gaslight, GATEKEEP, Girlboss
Gaslight, gatekeep, girlboss. The motto that propels me out of bed each morning. The motto that I strive to implement daily into my life. As I make my morning coffee, I think about the devious ways in which I will manipulate and gaslight people. Once, in an incredible turn of events, I gaslighted myself. True talent right there. I am obviously a girlboss through and through. Hello? Full time student, writer, and annoyance to everyone around me. That takes work to pull off.
Women In Music: Historical Trailblazers
While the sign on the boys clubhouse saying “No Girls Allowed” has long been stripped away, the sentiment is slow to follow. Sure, women can enter the club, but will we be granted acceptance? Working doubly hard for half the reward, it seems that we have to fight for the same privileges that men are granted.
Neil Young vs. Spotify
There's a specific type of person that we can't talk about our opinions with. Haters. There are two types of haters. The haters that simply don’t like something and move on with their lives and the Haters that seek to destroy the thing they hate or convert them to their beliefs. We all know people who can’t agree to disagree and try to force their beliefs onto you without listening to you. Neil Young seems to be a Hater... or is he? That's for you to decide.
Emo Kids Unite… Or Not?
Emo kids are coming out of retirement this week, thanks to the announcement of the We Were Young festival. The event is bringing together bands for a one night Warped Tour like festival. The 12 hour festival has headliners including My Chemical Romance, Paramore, ADTR, Avril Lavigne, and so many more. For former emo kids this is pop punk heaven… or is it hell?
Listening with Intention this New Year's
We as listeners can’t commit. We refuse to be in a committed relationship with anyone. We want to flirt with everything and everyone at the same time. We hook up with singles and leave them in the dust the next day. “Screw monogamy”, we shout as we curate our favorite singles into our carefully constructed playlists. “No exclusivity”, as we jump from The Beatles to Kanye West. “I think we should see other people” as we forget about our favorite artist of the week and chase someone new.
