Chelsea Cutler Returns With “Men On The Moon”

Following her 2021 sophomore album “When I Close My Eyes”, singer-songwriter Chelsea Cutler is back with “Men On The Moon”. The release comes highly anticipated after weeks of teasing on social media and being performed unreleased on Cutler’s tour.

Cutler first teased "Men On The Moon" in a clip posted to her TikTok account. Explaining the inspiration behind the song, Cutler remarks that “One thing that I think is so insane is that we as a human race have come so far and yet we still struggle to just talk to each other”.
Cutler’s vocals float over a soft piano melody and light guitar chords. Through her dreamy delivery and emotionally charged cosmic lyrics, she ponders, “We put men on the moon, but I still don’t know how to get to you.” Sonically and thematically, the song diverges from Cutler’s recent releases, finding Cutler ever-evolving and growing.

“We put men on the moon, but I can't figure out what is missin'. And in every room, you're right in front of me. We find pictures in stars, but they're thousands of miles away, oh”. Exploring the difficulties of human connection, Cutler points out the irony of investing in space exploration to try and learn a tiny bit more about the universe, but we are unwilling to invest energy into understanding the people who are right in front of us.

“Men On The Moon” marks a new era for Chelsea’s music. On release day, Chelsea posted on her Instagram: “The first installment of the next era is finally here. Men on The Moon is a special, special song to me. It embodies everything I imagine for myself and my career moving forward.
Going into this summer, I wanted to challenge myself to dig deeper and confront emotions I had previously lacked the capacity to face. Human connection has always been at the root of my lyricism. And for something that is so essential to the human experience, it sure is incredibly challenging for us just to communicate with one another. As a human race, we’ve accomplished so much; yet, there are so many nuances to relationships and heartbreak that we simply struggle to understand. That notion is bewildering to me and is what inspired me to write this song.
This next chapter, I want my music to compel you to feel things fully and undeniably. And truly, this song makes my chest crumble, makes my eyes tear up, and makes my mind race. That’s how I know it’s right.”

“Men On The Moon” is a strong start into Cutler’s new era, and I’m excited to see what follows.
