Save Your “Playlist in a Bottle” for 2024

I just made a playlist that I can’t listen to for an entire year.

Spotify’s new feature lets you capture what music you are listening to now in a virtual bottle and send it to yourself a year from now.

I hope that someone gets my

Message in a bottle, yeah

A year has passed since I wrote my note

Someone at Spotify must have been inspired by The Police’s “Message in a Bottle” to devise this idea.

The new “Playlist in a Bottle” feature allows you to save your music in a time capsule and give yourself a little surprise a year from now. Spotify says this feature “captures who you are musically right now and then lets you revisit your 2023 musical self one year later.”

For personal flair, there are a variety of virtual capsules to choose from: a bottle, jean pocket, gumball machine, lunch box, acorn, or teddy bear.

After choosing your desired capsule, you will receive three song-inspired prompts such as:

“A song that reminds you of your favorite person”

“A song you’re going to kiss someone to this year”

“A song you need to hear live in 2023”

Choose your answers carefully because once your time capsule is sealed, it’s locked away for the year. When 2024 rolls around, you’ll be able to share your time capsules on social media using a personalized card and the hashtag #PlaylistInABottle.

I already know I’ll likely be cringing at what awaits me in 12 months, but this is about growth, people! As time marches onward, our music tastes change as we do.

Here's to change and discovery this year! Both in music and ourselves!
