Valley is Back with “Throwback Tears'“

Dry those eyes because Valley is back!

Canadian alt-pop band Valley have announced their highly-anticipated sophomore album, Lost In Translation coming June 23rd. While we wait, the band has shared the album’s lead single “Throwback Tears.”

“Throwback Tears” are not shed on this song. Instead, the track brings a new perspective to old relationships, focusing on closure and moving on.

Falling just under 2 minutes, the short song features a minimal backing track that loops as vocalist Rob Lasks affirms the decision to move on. “Looking back, I’m glad we broke up. I ain’t crying throwback tears. Crying throwback tears over us.”

In true Valley fashion, the song is a sad bop. One of my favorite moments from the song is a little word painting moment that happens as Laska sings “let's get acoustic now” and an acoustic guitar rings out in the background. These catchy playful little moments feel like the band’s throwing a wink your way and inviting you into their space for just a moment.

The backing instrumental is minimal and laid back, but the chorus of “Throwback Tears” cuts through to impress sense of peace and closure.
